RESTORE: for a Healthy Nervous System

Practices for Restoring a Healthy Nervous System -offered with LMCCE

Service Description

Find yourself stuck in panic mode, stressed out and feeling frayed? It’s a common place to get caught in our current world. This course explores a variety of practices shown to regulate our nervous systems, decrease stress hormones, and offer meaningful self-care -- not so that we can check-out, but so that we are better positioned to care for ourselves and others. Each class will include: - Guided breath-work: students will learn a variety of easy-to-implement breath techniques, proven to calm the nervous system - Guided meditation: students will learn to practice deep physical relaxation through body scans and yoga nidra - Reiki: this hands-free energy practice will be shared, helping students to release unhelpful emotions and bring balance back into the energetic body - Sound healing: sound vibrations, produced with crystal sound bowls and other traditional instruments, will stimulate the body’s natural healing process and encourage deep relaxation - Journaling: the practice of short, guided writing sessions helps to integrate emotional healing and students will be invited to respond to curated journal prompts each session - Herbal tea and community circle: tea will be shared each session in a community circle, offering a host of benefits: interpersonal connection, physical nourishment, and the soothing sensations of several of our senses. These various practices have all been shown to enable better sleep, decrease stress and anxiety, improve interpersonal relationships, and generally improve health and well-being, by bringing balance back into our nervous system. Each week, practitioners will leave feeling restored, rejuvenated and ready to care for themselves and those around them. Even better, at the end of the series, practitioners will be armed with the knowledge of how to practice a diverse set of self-care tools, which they can continue to practice to build peace in their own lives, rippling peace out into the world around them. Dates: 4 Mondays, 9/30 to 10/28 (no class Columbus Day) Times: 10-11:15. Location: Larchmont Temple Link to register at Larchmont-Mamaroneck Center for Continuing Education coming soon.
